For those senior citizens who are looking for things to do in the Portage community, this page is just for you. Get out and experience all these classes, workshops, games and more! Be aware that schedules may change. Some activities are only held seasonally, too. Please call ahead.   

ADRC of Columbia County – Aging and Disability Resource Center

Home Delivered Meal Program provides a hot, nutritious meal to individuals who are: age 60 and over and are unable to prepare adequate meals on their own, caregivers or spouses who are in need of respite meals, disabled co-resident of an individual age 60 or over who receives meals. Disabled individuals may also be eligible to receive meals at full cost. Please contact the ADRC for complete program qualifications and requirements. Meals are provided on a long term or short-term basis. Anyone receiving this service is asked to contribute toward the cost of the meal but will not be denied due to their inability to pay. The ADRC is also seeking volunteer drivers and meal site managers for our Home-Delivered Meal Program.  If you have an hour or two that you could spare in the early morning/afternoon, please give us a call. We can be reached at (608)742-9233 and ask for Maddie. Please note we ask that our volunteers fill out a volunteer application and a background check to keep our participants safe. All volunteers receive mileage reimbursement.

ADRC Portage Dining Center
The Portage Dining Center is now open Monday through Friday with lunch served at 11:30am at the Aging & Disability Resource Center of Columbia County, 111 E. Mullet Street. Please remember to make your reservation by 11am the business day prior.

Transportation
The Columbia County Aging and Disability Resource Center provides transportation to non-ambulatory medical appointments for Columbia County residents ages 60+ and/or living with a disability. Due to grant funding, these medical appointment rides must be prioritized first, however, other rides may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Transportation to the pharmacy, grocery stores, banks, etc. may be considered by the Columbia County ADRC upon request. Madison appointments can start as early as 7:00 a.m., and no later than 2:00 p.m. Local appointments can start as early as 6:00 a.m. and no later than 3:00 p.m.

PORTAGE TRIAD GROUP

For senior citizens throughout Columbia County. The mission statement of the group is, “To reduce the criminal victimization of seniors through education, publication, and socialization.” The group assists the Portage Police Department with its annual fall open house, as well as the twice-yearly drug take back collection at Walgreens. The group also holds two events during the year, one being a spring training/luncheon and the second is in the fall, for bingo and a light dinner.

Various programs are planned each month.  When it comes to Adult Services, the Portage Public Library provides book discussions, performing artists, workshops, and other special programs to meet the information and cultural needs of the community.
