Research says Portage great place to start small business

Portage named one of the Best Cities to Start a Small Business

A new study just named Portage as the 6th best place in Wisconsin to start a small business. The study by LendEDU, evaluated Wisconsin communities on three criteria, including Population (daytime population and forecasted future population growth), Expenses (property taxes, sales taxes, utility costs, etc.) and Disposable Income available to residents (including the forecasted 5-year future income growth). This study follows recent analysis conducted by NerdWallet, a personal finance information service, where Portage placed 35th out of 118 places in Wisconsin, each with a population of at least 5,000. The overall score for each location was based on its business climate and economic health using data from the U.S. Census Bureau. Other factors included average revenue of businesses, percentage of businesses with paid employees, businesses per 100 people, median annual income, median annual housing costs, and unemployment rate.  Details from that analysis can be found at
