Canoes on Parade
The City of Portage Tourism Commission is bringing you Portage Canoes on Parade coordinated by the Portage Area Chamber of Commerce. This is a free public art event featuring nine (large scale 9-foot-tall) canoes around the Portage area.
Portage means “to carry.” Native people would portage their canoe over this narrow strip of land between the Fox River and Wisconsin River to hunt, fish, travel and trade.
Look at these canoes, transformed into works of art by local artists placed on display at various locations, for the public to view Monday, May 23 through to mid-October in 2022.

Go out this summer, find the canoes, then complete the entry form on the map of locations. Return the form to the Chamber office for your chance to win prizes! Entries are due by September 15, 2022. We encourage you to share your photos on social media using the hashtags #PortageWI and #CanoesOnParade
