The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will begin replacing the 1-39/90/94 bridges over
the Wisconsin River in Columbia County. These bridges, constructed in 1961, provide a critical interstate
link to Wisconsin and are nearing the end of their operational life. Construction is scheduled to begin in
late May 2024, with completion scheduled in 2027.
PROJECT OVERVIEW:
– Replacement of the existing 1-39/90/94 Wisconsin River bridges
– Reconstruction of approximately two miles of I-39/90/94 to accommodate the new bridge locations
– Replacement of County U and County V bridges over I-39/90/94
– Reconstruction and realignment of approximately 0.5 miles of County U and County V
WHAT TO EXPECT IN 2024
– Long-term closure of County U from late spring through fall 2024
– Occasional traffic impacts along: County V; St. Lawrence Bluff Road; Oak Knoll Drive
I-39/90/94 is scheduled to remain open to three lanes in each direction during peak travel times. Access to businesses and residences will be maintained.
